Seven-member jury selected for Carlos Hill fraud trial
A seven-member jury was this morning selected for the fraud trial of Former Cash Plus boss, Carlos Hill.
Hill is charged for fraudulently inducing people to invest in Cash Plus.
The jury is to return to the Home Circuit Court tomorrow to begin hearing testimonies from witnesses in the case.
This morning, Hill's $10 million bail was extended.
At the start of the trial this morning, one of Hill’s Attorneys, Valerie Neita-Robertson, informed the court that she had just received some documents from the prosecution and needs time to review them.
The prosecution then suggested that the jury be selected today and the witnesses called to testify tomorrow.
Last week Hill, reportedly provided documentation to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions showing that he can repay US$75 million to depositors in his failed investment club.
This morning DPP Paula Llewellyn told the court that she is yet to receive those documents and stressed that the Crown has a responsibility to proceed with the criminal matter.
Neita-Robertson said the defense was also ready to go ahead with the fraud case but indicated that the proceedings in the Home Circuit Court may affect the other matter involving her client.
A total of $10 billion is owed to some 40,000 depositors.
Only investors who are registered with the Office of the Trustee in Bankruptcy will be repaid their principal.
