The Police Federation says it is awaiting word from the finance ministry on the outcome of its discussion with Cabinet ministers on a wage deal.
The Cabinet is expected to discuss the matter today.
The Government has indicated that it will not be offering any salary increases to public sector workers for the next three years.
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association, the Jamaica Civil Service Association and the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions have already signed off on a wage freeze.
However, the groups representing police officers are maintaining that they will not accept that offer.
Chairman of the Police Federation, Sergeant Raymond Wilson, says following talks last week, the finance ministry informed that the issue will be discussed at the Cabinet, after which the associations will be re-engaged.
Sergeant Wilson says a decision will not be made immediately as the government’s response will have to be discussed with members of the Federation.
The Government was hoping to wrap up wage negotiations by today.
Wage restraint is one of the prior actions to be taken by the government as it seeks to sign a deal with the International Monetary Fund.
