The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) currently owes $30 million in relation to post-Hurricane Sandy cleanup.

Answering questions posed by opposition Member of Parliament Desmond McKenzie in the House of Representatives yesterday, the local Government minister, Noel Arscott, said the bill for post-sandy cleanup was $80 million.

He said so far $50 million had been paid by the NSWMA to private contractors employed to help with cleanup activities.

Arscott said the NSWMA hired a total of 109 private contractors.

The agency also contracted front end loaders, tractors, backhoes, grabbers, tipper trucks, compactors and chainsaws.
