Almost three months, after a ward at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre allegedly committed suicide, investigators attached to the Ministry of National Security are yet to complete a report.

Sixteen-year-old Vanessa Wint was found dead hanging from a sheet in her cell at the adult facility on November 21 last year.

Her death had re-ignited complaints about the housing of juveniles at adult correctional facilities.

Questions were raised if a breakdown in security could have allowed the teenage to take her life.

The Department of Correctional Services was reported as saying that her cell had been stripped of sheets, excess clothing and all non-essential items.

Contacted for an update, Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Sean Prendergast said the department is still awaiting a full report from the Ministry of National Security.

Lieutenant Colonel Prendergast said once the findings and recommendations are received the department will begin to take action.

Last week, the Office of the Children’s Advocate said it had completed its probe into the Vanessa Wint case.

The office said it is awaiting a ruling from the Special Coroner on the role of the State in the death of the ward.
