Broadcasting Commission warns against hacking

The Broadcasting Commission is reminding Jamaicans that they can be imprisoned for hacking data from computers and telephone.

The warning by Assistant Executive Director of the Commission, Karlene Salmon Johnson comes in the wake of a rash of hacking incidents worldwide involving high-profile individuals and companies.

Addressing students at Mona Primary School this week, Johnson said persons who engaged in this illegal activity could be charged under the Cyber Crime Act of 2010.

She says the law provides sanctions for the misuse of computer systems or data and facilitates the investigation and prosecution of such crimes.

Johnson urged students to protect the passwords for their Facebook and email accounts to prevent hackers from accessing their personal and private information.
