Dates set for pre-trial hearings for five Jamaican athletes

The Jamaica Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel has decided on the pre-trial dates for the five Jamaican athletes who tested positive for banned substances in July.
Former 100-metre world record holder Asafa Powell and his MVP teammate Sherone Simpson will meet the three-member Disciplinary Panel on September 27 for their pre-trial hearing.
Lennox Gayle will chair the three-member Disciplinary Panel for the pre-hearing trial for Powell and Simpson.
The other members of the panel are Dr Japheth Forde and Peter Prendergast.
Powell and Simpson tested positive for the stimulant oxilofrine at the Jamaican World Championships Trials in June.
Powell blamed his positive test on a range of new nutritional supplements prescribed to him by a physiotherapist.
The other three athletes who tested positive – discus throwers Allison Randall and Traves Smikle and junior high jumper Demar Robinson – have received a September 20 date for their pre-trial hearing.
Separate panels have been selected for Randall, Smikle and Robinson.
However, Kent Pantry will chair each of those panels.
Four of the five athletes turned up at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston this morning to finalise the dates with the panel.
