Azan to release statement on Spaldings market report today
Embattled junior minister for transport and works, Richard Azan, will today release a statement following a damning report from the Contractor General on his role in the Spaldings Market shop-construction scandal.
People's National Party (PNP) General Secretary Peter Bunting told a Gleaner Editors’ Forum yesterday afternoon that he expects Azan to issue a statement after consulting with his lawyers.
Julian Robinson, PNP deputy general secretary, also indicated that the hierarchy of the party would speak to the issue today following Azan's declaration.
Asked what effect the scandal dogging Azan is likely to have on the PNP as it prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary, Phillip Paulwell, leader of government business in the House of Representatives, conceded that the report was damaging.
Meanwhile, The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre has been informed that the Prime Minister will hold a special meeting ahead of the weekly Cabinet gathering on Monday to deal with the issue.
