A Jamaican man who Unites States authorities believe was behind a human trafficking ring in several countries around the world has been arrested in the state of New York.
The US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida has identified him as 36-year-old Damion St Patrick Baston.
According to a statement from the US Attorney's office, Baston has been charged in a 14-count indictment with one count of sex trafficking "by means of force, fraud and coercion."
The statement says Baston has been charged with forcible sex trafficking, five counts of trafficking multiple individuals for prostitution, aggravated identity theft, three counts of money laundering and illegal re-entry into the US.
The indictment was returned on December 12 and Baston was held in New York City five days later.
The US Attorney's office say the alleged offenses were committed in the state of Florida and in other countries such as Australia.
