Road blocks have started in Jamaica

Protestors have already began to block roads across the Corporate Area.

Reports have come in to our newsroom that a section of Red Hills Road has been blocked. Unconfirmed reports have now come in that sections of Cross Roads and Three Miles are now blocked

There are also unconfirmed reports that sections of Waltham Park, Molynes and Hagley Park Roads are blocked. In addition we received calls that sections of Mandela Highway are being blocked.

There has also been a rush on gas stations across the Corporate Area. Some gas stations in Cross Roads and downtown have already run out of gas. Meanwhile some business places have began to close and send home workers.

Meanwhile, police in St Ann are on standby in case there should be a disturbance arising from the budget presentation this afternoon.

However, Superintendent of police for St Ann Patricia Coulbourn-White, said in case persons decided to come out in large numbers then there was very little the police could do with the limited manpower available.

The ratio of police to citizens in St Ann is one-to-over 400, White said.

White said the police would seek to mitigate as best as they can and remains mindful of their level of responsibility and will continue to pay attention and remain close to the ground.
