Jamaica is to host two important meetings of foreign ministers of Latin America and the Caribbean this week.

The meetings, which have been scheduled for tomorrow to Friday in Montego Bay, will focus on integration and development.

Jamaica’s foreign affairs minister, Dr Kenneth Baugh, said the meetings would provide opportunities for Jamaica to strengthen its relations with other countries in the region.

Dr Baugh will chair the meeting, which will involve 34 foreign ministers.

On Friday morning, Prime Minister Bruce Golding, will deliver the keynote address.

The foreign affairs minister said Jamaica’s application for separate membership to Latin America and the Caribbean is expected to be ratified by the meeting.

Currently, Jamaica represents CARICOM in the Group.

In the meantime, Dr Baugh said Jamaica and Mexico are also scheduled to sign an Air Services Agreement at the meetings.

It’s expected that this agreement will open travel opportunities for the island’s tourism.
