NewsNSWMA gain millions in profit2009-11-05 17:52:35

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is reporting earnings of $120 million last year.
Executive Director Joan Gordon-Webley said the agency is seeking to end its dependency on the national budget. According to Mrs Gordon Webley, the NSWMA earns money from the work it does for agencies like the Tourism Product Development Company as well as from private citizens who use the services of the Parks and Gardens Division. In addition she said contractors are no longer being used to supervise the work of the NSWMA, and this is expected to create additional savings and provide more funds to hire more employees. Among the costs associated with the hiring of contractors were the provision of trucks. Mrs Gordon-Webley said the Authority was also responsible for repairing the vehicles when they broke down, in addition to finding replacements for the communities they served while they were out of commission. Mrs Gordon-Webley said the NSWMA has also embarked on a project to beautify sections of the country as well as to utilize compost from the landfills. Listen to Audio clip
