Local government propose farming for infirmaries

2009-11-05 17:53:58 | with audio | (0 Comments)

The country’s infirmaries are being encouraged to participate in farming activities as one way of reducing government expenditure at the entities.

State minister with responsibility for local government Robert Montague says a total of $200,000 has been made available for the project.

Mr Montague said the provision will provide a source of rehabilitation for the elderly residents as well as contribute to a reduction in operational costs.

Mr Montague has urged parish councilors to apply for the funding based on a programme worked out with Rural Agricultural Development Authority which will provide guidelines.

Meanwhile he said the government is also working on cutting energy costs.
