NewsMAJ now meeting with health ministry2009-11-06 13:08:40 | (0 Comments)
Representatives of the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ), are now meeting with health officials to discuss the proposal to put doctors on a shift system among other issues.
The doctors were summoned to the meeting after they raised objections to the move last week. If the shift system is enforced, each regional health authority could save a minimum of 10 million dollars monthly in overtime payments to doctors. However, the MAJ is insisting that such a system will impact negatively on the quality of healthcare offered to patients. The Health Ministry is also expected to provide more details on the recommendations of the preliminary report on the recent examination of medical salaries at today’s meeting. The Health Minister, Ruddy Spencer said he is now arranging meetings will all groups within the sector to discuss critical matters. Mr. Spencer said he has already met with the management of the Regional Health Authorities and the island’s hospitals as well as the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association. He is also due to meet with the opposition spokesman on health Dr Fenton Ferguson sometime next week. Mr. Spencer said he is also in discussions with suppliers in a bid to settle the Ministry’s debts. Source: Gleaner/Power 106 News Your Comments
