Honduran deal to resolve political crisis fails

2009-11-06 13:11:57 | (0 Comments)

Ousted Honduran President, Manuel Zelaya is reporting that the deal to resolve the country’s political crisis has failed.

Honduras has been shaken by a political crisis that began when Mr. Zelaya was forced out of the country on June 28.

Mr. Zelaya and interim leader Roberto Micheletti, had agreed to a US-backed power sharing deal last week with an implementation deadline which ended yesterday.

However, Mr. Micheletti said he will be forming a unity government without Mr. Zelaya's representatives.

Mr. Zelaya warned yesterday, that he would withdraw from the deal unless Congress held a vote on his restoration to power.

He has said elections planned for November 29, will not be valid unless he is restored to power first, although the agreement did not guarantee the ousted leader's restitution.
