Hayles says court action a waste of time

2009-11-06 18:00:58 | (0 Comments)

The Member of Parliament for Western Hanover, Ian Hayles is labeling the Court action initiated by the Jamaica Labour Party to remove him as MP, a total waste of time.

Mr Hayles said in the two instances when the matter was brought before the Courts, the lawyers acting on behalf of the JLP have requested adjournments.

He is insisting that time for an election petition to be filed has long past and there is no legal precedent for the JLP’s action to be successful in removing him.

The JLP is claiming that at the time of his nomination Ian Hayles was a dual citizen, which would disqualify him from being an MP.

However the Western Hanover MP said he renounced his allegiance to the United States before Nomination Day for the 2007 General Elections.

As a result, he said he is qualified to sit as a Member of Parliament.
