NDM and G2K want Davies removed from PAC

2009-11-06 18:03:30 | (0 Comments)

At least two organizations are calling for the removal of former finance minister Dr Omar Davies from some areas of public office.

The National Democratic Movement (NDM) wants Dr Davies removed as the Opposition spokesman on finance and Chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.

Generation 2000 (G2k) the young professional arm of the JLP also wants Dr Davies’ resignation from the chair of the PAC.

General Secretary for the NDM Michael Williams is hitting out at Dr Davies for what he says is the incompetent manner in which he handled the contract for the former central bank governor, Derick Lattibeudiere.

Mr Lattibeudiere was fired last Friday after the government expressed alarm at his $38 million salary package plus perks.

Mr Williams is also taking issue with Dr Davies’ handling of aspects of the economy during his tenure as finance minister.

Meanwhile the JLP affiliate, G2K also wants Dr Davies to step down as chair of the PAC based on the revelations in Parliament on Tuesday about the contract for the former BOJ governor.

According to G2K the revelations suggest mismanagement and poor judgment on the part of the former finance minister and make it necessary for him to recuse himself from further work of the PAC.

Otherwise the organization said Davies could find himself in the conflicting position of presiding over a review that questions his own stewardship.

G2K said the potential conflict of interest could prove embarrassing and should be avoided.
