The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and First Lady Salma Kikwete are expected in the island in under an hour for a three day visit.
The Tanzanian leader is slated to tour the Amity Hall Project and the Bodles Research Station in St. Catherine during his visit. The Amity Hall Project, a 25-hectare Experimental Rice Farm, is a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Jamaica Broilers Group as a means of satisfying the country’s rice consumption. Other engagements for the Tanzanian President and First Lady include meetings with tourism officials and tours of some of the top attractions in St. Ann. President Kikwete is also expected to unveil the statue of Olympian, Herb Mckenley at the National Stadium on Wednesday, address Parliament and meet with Prime Minister Bruce Golding. His extensive tour of duty will also include a state dinner at Kings House. The Tanzanian officials will depart Jamaica on Thursday for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Prime Minister Bruce Golding will lead Jamaica’s delegation to the Commonwealth meeting which is scheduled for November 27 to 29.
