Former deacon goes on trial for human trafficking

2009-11-30 09:26:17 | (0 Comments)

Donovan Jones, the 48-year-old former church deacon who is on human trafficking charges, is to go on trial today.

The trial has been scheduled for the Home Circuit Court.

Jones was charged in 2006 in connection with an incident involving a 14-year-old schoolgirl, who was sexually assaulted.

Two of the three male teenagers who were charged jointly with Jones, for the alleged sexual molestation, have been placed on probation.

The third teenager was admonished and discharged.

The teenagers were also charged with human trafficking, but in July last year they pleaded guilty in the Home Circuit Court to indecent assault.

The Crown is alleging that Jones was present in a motor car when the girl was fondled in April and May 2006, while someone video-recorded the events.

Following a Gleaner expose, Jones was arrested and charged and later forced to resign from his position as a deacon of a St Andrew-based church.
