Safer roads measures to be implemented in the New Year

2009-12-29 08:56:42 | (0 Comments)

The Transport Minister, Mike Henry said his ministry will be working on implementing measures in the New Year to make the nation’s roads safer.

Mr. Henry says the loss of life in traffic crashes continues to affect the country’s human and financial resources.

He said many of the road fatalities could have been avoided if persons adhered to the regulations of the road.

The Transport Minister says his ministry will be taking steps which he hopes will help to reduce the number of road crashes and fatalities.

He adds that the Transport Ministry will be working closer with the Constabulary Force by providing information for its Road Safety Surveillance Plan.

The National Road Safety Unit has reported that at least 333 persons have died on the nation’s roads since the start of the year.

This is way above the less than 300 target set by the unit.
