According to a report on CNN, the earthquake occurred West of the capital of Port-au Prince. There have been three reported aftershocks of 5.9, 5.5 and 5.1 since the first quake. CNN also reported that an eyewitness said the city of Port-au-Prince is covered in dust. International artiste Wyclef Jean,who is from Haiti, was also quoted on CNN saying that he was speaking with a relative in Haiti via telephone when the relative said, he think there was just an earthquake. After which the connection broke and he has been unable to get through again. Communication channels in the island are said to be down. He also appealed for aid for the country, saying it would be necessary and was needed immediately. Tremors that could be associated with that earthquake were felt in the Corporate Area of Kingston and St. Andrew, Jamaica. Reports are also coming in of the quake being felt as far away as St. Mary. There are tsunami watches for Bahamas, Cuba and Dominican Republic. According to United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred 15 km (10 miles) South West of PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti 140 km (90 miles) East of Les Cayes, Haiti 145 km (90 miles) West North West of Barahona, Dominican Republic 1140 km (710 miles) South East of Miami, Florida. CNN reports that a hospital has collapsed in Haiti and many people are trapped and crying out for help. More details will follow shortly.
