El Faisal to arrive in Jamaica today

2010-01-20 09:02:00 | (0 Comments)

Radical Muslim cleric Sheikh Abdullah El-Faisal is expected to arrive in Jamaica today.

A Senior Officer in the Jamaica Constabulary Force told the Gleaner that El Faisal is to arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston sometime this morning.

The source also said the controversial cleric is to be placed under extra scrutiny by the police.

However, the source declined to elaborate on the matter.

Despite international reports of the deportation, the Police High Command and the Minister of Foreign Affairs have both claimed ignorance of the exact date of arrival of El Faisal.

They have also said that no extra security measures are to be implemented against the cleric despite the fact that he is on an international watch list of terrorists.

The 46-year-old cleric is being deported from Kenya over what authorities say is his criminal history.

Kenya’s Immigration Minister has said that El Faisal is being expelled from the African country because he violated the terms of his tourist visa by preaching in mosques.

El-Faisal was born Trevor Forrest in Westmoreland.

He was imprisoned in Britain in 2003 for inciting the murder of ethnic groups.

He was sentenced to nine years, but was released after serving four and deported to Jamaica in 2007.
