The Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools is raising concern about the education ministry’s ability to meet its financial obligations.

According to Vice President of the Association, Ester Tyson the ministry is yet to honour an agreement it made with a high school in Clarendon.

She says the ministry had promised to reimburse the school for dipping into its accounts to construct additional classrooms.

But Mrs. Tyson says the ministry is yet to make the payment.

Meanwhile, the principal of the Clarendon based high school says he has been in contact with officials from the education ministry but is yet to get any official feedback.

He confirmed that the ministry owes the school a total of $23 million for the construction of the classrooms and additional sums for teachers’ salaries.

The principal also pointed to the desperate nature of the situation as he says the contractors are now demanding that they be paid as soon as possible.

In the meantime, the education ministry has promised to look into the matter and provide an update at a later date.
