NewsCustoms reports illegal cigarette seizure2010-03-11 09:05:45 | (0 Comments)
The Customs Department is reporting the seizure of over 400 cases of illegal cigarettes valued at $120 million.
The department says the seizure was made by the Contraband Enforcement Team on March 6. The team reportedly conducted a search of premises occupied by a construction company, bordered by Kingston Container Terminals (KCT). The search resulted in the initial seizure of 75 master cases of cigarettes or over half a million sticks of the tobacco product. The customs department says further investigations revealed broken seals on a container at KCT awaiting export to St. Maarten. Cigarettes of the same packaging and type were also reportedly found in the container with the indication that some boxes were missing.
