Senate approves terrorism bill

2010-03-12 17:50:02 | (0 Comments)

The senate today approved the amendments to the Terrorism Prevention Act, which were passed in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Attorney general and Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Dorothy Lightbourne told members that the amendments will allow for penalties greater than those prescribed in the parent statute.

The bill will now head to the Governor General for his assent before it can become law.

Anti-terrorism law was passed in Jamaica in 2005 following the September 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, which claimed the lives of nearly three thousand people.
