Chemical spill at Kingston Wharves closes facility

The Jamaica Gleaner understands that the Kingston Wharves is now closed after a chemical spill at the facility today.

A representative at the company told The Gleaner that "they were still trying to collate information about the incident, but out of an abundance of caution sent everyone home."

The representative told The Gleaner that the chemical was chlorine. In addition to Kingston Wharves being closed, The Gleaner understands that Harbour Cold Stores have also been closed with everyone sent home.

The representative said that the company will be communicating in the media when the facility is safe for anyone to return.

Founded in 1945, Kingston Wharves is one of the Caribbean's leading multipurpose terminal operators.The company operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
