Opposition wants Gov’t to address corruption

The People’s National Party is calling for the government to do more to address the issue of corruption in the country.

Opposition spokesman on Finance, Dr. Peter Phillips is proposing more powers for individuals or groups involved in the investigation and prosecution of criminal activities.

In the meantime, The Jamaica Labour Party’s Karl Samuda said the government remains determined to rid the country of corruption, particularly in the public service.



Last month, global anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International ranked Jamaica 86 out of 182 countries with a score of 3 point 3 out of 10.

It said the ranking indicates that nothing much has changed in Jamaica to show the international community that it is effectively fighting corruption.
