Police: Politics not involved in Savanna-la-Mar shooting

Politics was not a motive in a shooting at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) meeting last night according to preliminary police investigations.

According to the police, the shooting is as a result of a gang feud between members of the Hot Roses Gang and the Bobo Gang.

At a press conference today, head of communications at the Jamaica Constabulary Force Karl Angell said that members of the Bobo Gang tried to kill the head of the Hot Roses Gang.

This incident is believed to be linked to the recent conviction of the leader of the Bobo Gang, Andre Brown.

In the meantime the police have identified the man who was killed when gunmen opened fire at a JLP meeting in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland last night.

He is 20-year-old Daniel Campbell, otherwise called Scotchie of a Dalling Street address in the parish.

Three other persons were also injured during the shooting.

The police say explosions were heard shortly before 10 o’ clock while the meeting was in progress.

They say when the shooting subsided, four persons were found with gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital where Campbell was pronounced dead.

The other injured persons were admitted in serious condition.

JLP candidate for Westmoreland Central Marlene Malahoo-Forte, has described the incident as political.
