Upsets in JLP

Last night’s elections saw two senior members of the Andrew Holness-led cabinet being booted from parliament.

Former Agriculture minister, Robert Montague, and former energy minister, Clive Mullings, both lost their bid to return to the House of Representatives.

Montague was defeated by the People's National Party's (PNP) Joylan Silvera in St. Mary Western, while Mullings was defeated by Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams in St. James West Central.

Two junior ministers from the Holness Administration also ended up in the losers’ corner.

Former junior minister for Labour and Social Security, Andrew Gallimore, lost his St. Andrew west Rural seat to Paul Buchanan, while Laurence Broderick, who was state minister in the energy ministry, lost his Clarendon Northern seat to Horace Dalley.

In the meantime, two of the biggest wins for the PNP last night were in Manchester Central where Peter Bunting defeated the JLP’s Danville Walker by polling 10,481 votes to 10,042.

In North West Clarendon, Richard Azan reclaimed the seat he lost to Michael Stern in 2007 polling 8,161 votes to Stern’s 6,613.
