EOJ: Official results to be ready by Saturday

2011-12-30 13:17:55 | (0 Comments)

Director of Elections, Orrette Fisher, says the Electoral Office of Jamaica is hoping to have the official results of yesterday’s General Elections by tomorrow evening.

The preliminary results have shown the People’s National Party (PNP) winning 41 of the 63 seats available in the House of Representatives.

This means the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has won only 22.

However, all the ballots are currently being recounted and the parties will be particularly watchful of the recount in the seats which were won by narrow margins.

Among the seats of interest is St. Elizabeth South Western where the JLP’s Dr. Christopher Tufton currently enjoys a margin of victory of just 101 votes.

He was challenged by the PNP’s Hugh Buchanan.

Other seats of interest are, St. James Central, where the PNP’s Lloyd B Smith narrowly won against the JLP’s Heroy Clarke , and Clarendon South East where the JLP’s Ruddy Spencer had a narrow victory over the PNP’s Dereck Lambert.
