The Kingston Waterfront will come alive tomorrow night with fireworks to kick off celebrations for Jamaica’s golden anniversary.

Since 1999, Jamaicans have come to expect fireworks on the waterfront on New Year’s Eve, but this year’s spectacle has taken on greater significance because 2012 will mark Jamaica’s 50th year of independence.

The programme of activities is scheduled to begin at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, with the fireworks display taking place at midnight.

The Urban Development Corporation says there will be a kiddies area along Ocean Boulevard as well as a variety of rides and vending stalls offering food and art and craft items.

It says a VIP party will be held at the poolside of the Oceana Building where all the street activities and the fireworks, can be viewed from an excellent vantage point.

The event will also feature a free stage show featuring popular artists such as G -Whizz, Khago, Ken Booth, George Nooks, Omari, Joan Flemmings and I-Octane.
