Ex-soldier, entertainer arrested

An entertainer and an ex-soldier were yesterday taken into custody after they were found in possession of an illegal firearm in a motorcar along the Mandela Highway in St Andrew.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) state that about 2:30 yesterday afternoon, police intercepted a Toyota Corolla motorcar along the Mandela Highway and searched it. A Norinco 9mm pistol loaded with four 9mm cartridges were found.

The ex-soldier, who is believed to be a member of the Dog Paw criminal gang, and the entertainer, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were taken into custody by the Organised Crime Investigation Division. Their names are being withheld pending further investigation.
