CaribbeanTrinidad: Opposition leader wants Police Commissioner to resign2012-01-10 11:49:36 | (0 Comments)
Opposition Leader in Trinidad Dr. Keith Rowley has called for the resignation of Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs.
The calls follow news that police had found no evidence, regarding a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar and senior members of her Cabinet. The Sunday Express newspaper reported that a probe carried out by Superintendent John Daniel and submitted to Police Commissioner Gibbs found no physical evidence to support the claim of an assassination plot. Dr. Rowley told a news conference that the coalition People’s Partnership government had misrepresented police work for political benefit. On Sunday, Legal Affairs Minister Prakash Ramadhar said the Congress of the People party, one of the five members of the coalition government, was worried about conflicting police reports regarding the plot to assassinate the government ministers. The Police had detained 17 people, including a police sergeant, two former soldiers and some Islamic leaders, on suspicion of being behind the alleged plot. However, they were later released.
