The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has started a probe into the controversial police killing of 18-year-old Anthony Litchmore on Frederick Avenue in Grants Pen, St Andrew today.
INDECOM says the police reported that a team was en-route to an assignment when the group saw Litchmore and another man walking along a gully towards Markland Drive in Kingston 8.
The police further say the team stopped a vehicle with men aboard who pointed guns at them.
The man who was walking behind Litchmore reportedly fired two shots at the police and ran.
The police say they returned fire and Litchmore was hit.
He was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies where he died while receiving treatment.
However, INDECOM says persons claiming to be eyewitnesses contradict the police account of the incident.
The alleged eyewitnesses claim that Litchmore was walking along the gully peeling an orange when police personnel travelling in a car stopped and accosted him.
The police reportedly told him to put his hands in the air then one of the policemen shot Litchmore three times in the stomach.
The police say a .38 revolver with four live rounds was recovered from the scene of the shooting.
INDECOM is inviting anyone with information relating to this incident to call 968-8875, 968-1932 or 833-0972.
