Gaddafi had undeclared chemical weapons

2012-01-22 10:21:54 | (0 Comments)

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons says former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had an undeclared stockpile of chemical weapons.

The organisation said the weapons were discovered by its inspectors on their visit to Libya last week. Among the chemical ammunitions the inspectors found were stocks of sulphur mustard agent, which can cause severe blistering.

Members of the new Libyan regime informed the group about the stockpile of chemical weapons last year after Mr Gaddafi was removed from power.

The inspectors say the newly declared materials are being stored at the Ruwagha depot, which is believed to be part of the former Rabta chemical weapons production facility.
