JEEP still on track

Dr. Omar Davies, the transport and works minister, has said the Government will implement the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP) despite the discovery that nearly all the funds in the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP) are almost used up.

"I wish to assure members of this honourable House and the country that the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme will be implemented and there will be no increase to the existing budget for JDIP," Davies said.

The governing People's National Party had promised to divert a quarter of the JDIP funds on to implement JEEP.

In Parliament today, Davies said he will shortly be announcing details of the first phase of the JEEP project, using reallocated funds from the JDIP loan, which will begin during the last two months of the fiscal year.
