Australia have taken charge of the fourth and final Test against India in Adelaide as the hosts declared their first innings on 604 for seven on today’s second day.
Their bowlers then took two quick wickets to leave India on 61 for two. Ricky Ponting and captain Michael Clarke hit double centuries to set up Australia’s big total after the team resumed this morning on 335 for 3. Following his unbeaten 329 in the second Test, Clarke scored 210 after resuming on 140. He is now the first Test captain to score a double and triple century in the same series. Ponting, who was 137 overnight, went on to score 221. The pair put on 386 - Australia's fourth highest-ever partnership. Brad Haddin remained not out 42 with Ryan Harris on 35 at the time of the declaration. Ravichandran Ashwin was the most successful bowler for India with three for 194; while Zaheer Khan had two for 96. India will resume the third day with Gautam Gambhir on 30 and Sachin Tendulkar on 12.
