Road deaths still a concern- RSU

The Road Safety Unit in the Transport Ministry says it is concerned about the number of road fatalities despite a dip in such deaths.

Data released by the Unit show that 20 persons have been killed on the nation’s roads so far.

This is four fewer than the number of persons killed this time last year.

Nine of those killed were passengers, five pedestrian and three drivers.

Despite the slight drop in road fatalities, the Road Safety Unit’s Director, Kanute Hare, said the agency is extremely concerned about the number of multiple fatal collisions.

Hare noted that there have been five multiple fatality crashes so far, which have accounted for 14 of the 20 deaths.

It is for this reason he is urging road users to adhere to proper safety standards.
