Opposition wants answers on JEEP

The Opposition has signalled that it will be pressuring the Government for answers on the much-touted Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP).

The Opposition spokesman for transport and works, Karl Samuda, served notice yesterday that he will be tabling a series of questions, on the programme in the parliament next week.

Samuda said the opposition is concerned that the country is yet to be given details on the JEEP.

He also said the opposition took note of what he calls the confusion surrounding the launching of an Inter-American Development Bank project and the expected rolling out of the JEEP last week.

According to Samuda, there is too much uncertainty over the JEEP.

The JEEP was announced at the People’s National Party’s annual conference last September.

Since coming to office, the government has announced that funds from the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP), loan are to be reallocated to fund the JEEP.

Transport and Works Minister, Dr. Omar Davies, said that the Government will go ahead with these plans, despite discovering that most of the JDIP money has already been programmed.
