No interference from Martelly in "Baby Doc" ruling

2012-02-05 10:34:55 | (0 Comments)

Haiti’s president Michel Martelly will not intervene in the human rights case against former dictator Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier that was thrown out by an investigating judge.

In a statement, Martelly said he respects the rule of law and stated that he has no right to meddle in the ruling of an independent judiciary.

The announcement comes amid growing international outrage over a Haitian judge’s decision to dismiss the case against Duvalier for grave human rights violations.
