Judge says Livity must face gun trial
2012-02-09 17:21:51 | (0 Comments)
Supreme Court Judge David Fraser has ruled that Leighton ‘Livity’ Coke has a case to answer at the gun trial now underway against him.
‘Livity’ is the brother of former Tivoli Gardens crime lord Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
‘Livity’ was remanded until March 21 when he returned to the Gun Court today.
At that time, ‘Livity’ is expected to state his defence.
‘Livity,’ who has been charged with shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm has been in custody since July 2010.
On Monday after the crown closed its case, ‘Livity’s’ defence lawyer Carolyn Reid-Cameron made a no case submission on behalf of her client.
Reid-Cameron contended that ‘Livity’ should not be called upon to answer to the charges.
But prosecutors opposed the legal submission, claiming that the crown had proved its case against Livity.
The Crown is alleging that in May 2010 Leighton Coke fired at the police when they went into Tivoli to arrest his brother, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, to execute a warrant of arrest on him in relation to a request from the US for his extradition.
