Reports out of the UK have revealed that a record number of people were prosecuted for racially and religiously motivated hate crimes in England and Wales last year.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service, some 13,276 people appeared in court for such crimes from 2010 to 2011, many of whom were involved in assaults or verbal abuse.
It said of the cases that concluded last year, more than 80 per cent resulted in convictions.
The prosecutions total is the highest since hate crime statistics were first compiled in 2005-2006.
