The Ministry of Tourism says it has boosted its advertising and marketing efforts to encourage visitor arrivals amid the challenges facing the sector.

Tourism Minister Wykeham McNeil has cited the closure of hotels, weather conditions and the UK imposed Air Passenger Duty as some of the issues affecting Jamaica’s Tourism product.

According to him, between May 2011 and January 2012 overall arrivals were down by 0.8 per cent and in that period there was only three months of growth.

He said the ministry has embarked on an intense marketing campaign since last month to help the sector recover from the decline in stopover arrivals and revenues in recent months.
