Union, JPS meet over pension scheme

A meeting has been called for today between the National Workers Union (NWU) and the representatives of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS), to discuss concerns about pension entitlements for some workers.

Pensioners and workers represented by the NWU are reportedly upset over plans by the JPS to, among other things, reduce benefits.

They are also upset about plans to remove surplus earnings from the pension fund.

Tension between the parties was quelled following the intervention of the labour ministry, which instructed the Board of Trustee of the pension fund to meet with the workers and their representatives.

Today’s meeting is scheduled for 9.30 a.m. at the JPS Head Office in New Kingston.
