Monique Grange, Gleaner Writer
The Mayor of Kingston Lee Clarke is insisting that a City lottery programme in Kingston could help solve some of the infrastructure problems in the Corporate Area. Yesterday, the mayor warned Kingstonians not to expect any major infrastructural and social problems because there is no money in the coffers of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC). However Clarke, who has been lobbying for a lottery programme since 2008, reiterated that, if approved, the lottery could solve some of the Corporation’s financial woes. He said the money earned could help to fix 75 per cent of the roadways in need of repairs in a five-year period. Clarke said while the private sector supports the city lottery initiative, politicians have been objecting to it. The mayor said he plans to re-apply for a license from the new government. Meanwhile, Clarke said consultations are underway with the public health department, to address the rat infestation problem in several corporate area communities. radio@gleanerjm.com Listen to Audio clip
