Assan Thompson to return to court on March 12

Senior Superintendent of Police Assan Thompson who is accused of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court today.

He pleaded not guilty and was ordered to return on March 12.

It is alleged that Thompson failed to provide the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption with a quantity surveyor's report for a property on Karachi Avenue, St Andrew.

Under the law, public servants are required to declare their assets and liabilities annually.

Also appearing before the court were 18 members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force including senior superintendent Anthony Castell.

They were summoned to court for failure to file their statutory declarations.

Castell pleaded not guilty and is to return to court on March 12.

He is accused of failing to file declarations for the years 2003 to 2010.
Four of the others pleaded not guilty and were ordered to return to court on March 12.

In the cases against the others, 12 of them pleaded guilty and were each fined $5,000. The crown withdrew the case against one of them.
