Trial of cop accused of killing teenager to begin next week

The trial of police constable accused of murdering a 14-year-old schoolgirl is set to begin next week Monday.

Twenty-four-year-old constable Rushon Hamilton’s murder case was set for trial in the Home Circuit court today.

However, it could not proceed because Hamilton’s lawyer Valerie Neita Robertson is appearing in another murder case which began last week.

The Crown is alleging that Jhaneel Goulbourne was sexually molested on October 4, 2008, at the Elletson Road Police Station in Kingston.

A report was made to the police on October 10, 2008, and Hamilton was subsequently arrested and charged with carnal abuse and indecent assault.

The girl went missing from her home in Harbour View, St. Andrew, a few weeks after she made the report to the police, and has not been seen since.

It is alleged that she was standing at her gate when she was abducted.

Hamilton is also facing charges of carnal abuse and indecent assault.
He has been in custody since 2008.
