Opposition spokesman on transport and works, Karl Samuda, is accusing his Government counterpart of misleading the Jamaican public about a $1.8 billion expenditure by the former administration in December.

On Tuesday, Dr. Omar Davies told parliament the government had spent $1.8 billion on bushing just ahead of the December 29 general elections.

But in a release this afternoon, Samuda said the statements by Dr. Davies were inaccurate and misleading.

Samuda says the $1.8 billion did not only cover bushing but also work to be done in the future such as the clearing of drains and scarifying of roads with heavy equipment.

Samuda has accused Dr. Davies of being disingenuous for suggesting such a large sum could be spent on bushing only or in such a short period.

In addition, Samuda says reference to the committal of funds by Dr. Davies stand to give the impression that the money was actually spent, when that was not the case.
