Barnett Street Police Station reopens after multimillion-dollar facelift

The Barnett Street Police Station in Montego Bay, St James, was reopened today after a $7.4 million renovation.

The station had been in a state of disrepair before fire destroyed the main residential building that housed several police personnel.

Speaking after the re-opening, National Security Minister Peter Bunting said the increase in criminal activities in St James makes it very timely.

He says given the strategic location of the Barnett Street Police Station, it was important for it to be up and running in order to address the growing demand to tackle street level crimes and investigate criminal cases.

Mr Bunting says it was also important to provide appropriate accommodations for police personnel who are required to act in a professional manner.
