NewsUpdate: Five students injured in Ohio school shooting2012-02-27 10:02:01 | (0 Comments)
CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — An FBI spokeswoman says five students were injured when a shooter described as a classmate opened fire at an Ohio high school.
Special Agent Vicki Anderson said Monday the shooter was taken into custody near his car about half a mile away from the high school. A spokeswoman for the Cleveland Clinic says two students were taken to the clinic's Hillcrest Hospital in suburban Cleveland. A spokeswoman for the Cleveland MetroHealth System says an additional three students were taken to the Cleveland hospital. There was no word on the extent of injuries. The shooting was reported around 7.30 a.m. this morning at Chardon High School. Chardon is about 30 miles east of Cleveland. Gunfire at a high school outside Cleveland injured a number of students Monday morning, and at least one suspect has been taken into custody, officials said. Television news footage showed anxious parents escorting children away from a school building, and ambulances could be seen outside. A spokeswoman for Cleveland's MetroHealth System said a medical helicopter was dispatched to the high school. Schools in the area were locked down. Bob Herp, a Chardon trauma nurse, was at a command scene at a local Wal-Mart store where he said helicopters were on the ground.
