The Ministry of Health has established An Equipment Performance Taskforce, as part of the its focus on increasing the number of functioning tools in public health facilities.

The Ministry said the taskforce is also part of efforts to develop a framework for the optimal use of medical equipment and to help to standardize equipment procurement.

Health Minister Dr. Fenton Ferguson said he has already met with members of the taskforce and they have submitted their work programme.

He said the 13-member group will recommend equipment performance standards and ways to simplify the operation, maintenance and replacement and disposal of non functioning equipment.

He said members of the taskforce are drawn from across health facilities and departments within the Ministry.

Dr. Ferguson said the work of the taskforce is expected to make a significant impact on the Ministry’s ability to provide diagnostic and other services.
